Subjective cognitive decline and objective cognition in Hispanics/Latinos Lead Investigator: Zvinka Zlatar Institution : UC San Diego E-Mail : zzlatar@ucsd.edu Proposal ID : 1227 Proposal Description: Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) reporting is increasingly recognized as a potential harbinger of future objective cognitive decline and may be an early risk marker of Alzheimer?s disease and related dementias. Although Hispanics/Latinos are at increased risk for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) compared to non-Hispanic Whites, research investigating early risk markers of cognitive decline in this growing segment of the US population is lacking. The goal of the proposed research is to investigate if SCD status is associated with objective cognitive function in Hispanics/Latinos with normal cognition and mild cognitive impairment after adjusting for variables known to affect this association (age, depression, sex, education level, and functional status). We hypothesize that SCD status (self-reported cognitive complaint versus no-self reported cognitive complaint) will be associated with concurrent cognitive performance after covariate adjustment. Results will help elucidate the correlates of SCD reporting in Hispanics/Latinos to further refine its measurement and predictive value in future studies.
